The Faros Marathon is an international distance swimming competition. From its humble beginnings as a local competition, the Faros Marathon has become a global institution and one of the most prestigious distance swimming events. This legendary sports event takes place in mid-September, when Starigrad becomes the epicentre of sports and entertainment.

This year's 45th consecutive edition is set to be held on 14 September, starting at 9:00 a.m. at Nova Riva 1 in Starogrojska Vala.

Many swimmers from various countries are expected to participate, and they will compete for the title of winner on this challenging 10-kilometre-long course, while they can also choose a less demanding 3-kilometre-long course.

The Faros Marathon is a prestigious international distance swimming competition that has been held for almost half a century in the picturesque Starogrojčica, in Starogrojska Vala, on the route that runs from Nova rta Kabla (also known as punta o' Kobla). The first edition of this competition was held back in 1976, and the first winner was the legendary Croatian swimmer Veljko Rogošić, which started a series of competitions where some of the biggest names in world of distance swimming gathered.

Its reputation and cult status were confirmed in 2012, when it was inducted into the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame. This made the Faros Marathon the first Croatian sports event to gain membership in this prestigious Hall of Fame, which further strengthened its position on the world sports map. Great credit for this achievement goes to Vicko Šoljan, who started the competition.
